We are glad to share the story of the 9th grade students from class 9B2 at Vinschool Central Park (HCM) who fundraised money to make a donation to Zero Waste Saigon.
We are so grateful that there are students who care so much about the environment and associations that aim at raising awareness like ours.
In fact, it is a virtuous cycle because all the money collected is then used to fundraise our education and reduction program for the students. Indeed, Education is the root for change.
The money they raised was part of their project for their Service Learning subject. The objective of this project was to improve sustainability and to create a good impact on their community. They chose to focus on plastic waste pollution because unfortunately plastic is a big part of everybody’s life and, for many reasons, it has a huge negative impact on the whole planet, on animals and on humans.
Since they are students, they decided that they could help contribute to reduce plastics pollution by donating money to an organization with the same motive and they tried to raise awareness for other students about the current situation.
To raise money, they decided to take common plastics waste, such as water bottle and yogurt containers, and recycled them into small plant pots for planting succulents. Finally, they did manage to make 20 plant pots, to recycle over 20 yogurt containers and 15 plastic bottles.
On Action Day, the day where all students showcased their project, they sold their products and attracted many supporters and donors. In the end they manage to raise 765,000 VND for Zero Waste Saigon and has increased awareness to over 70 parents, teachers and students.
Thank you Trương Thị Thảo Nguyên, Bùi Công Duy, Nguyễn Trang Quỳnh My, Trần Quang Vinh, Nguyễn Minh Quân and Lâm Lạc Nghi!
