Our green grass straws are hand picked by local people living in Long An province. These rural farmers rely on the Lepironia grass products they make as the main source of their income.

The wetland that is home to the Co Bang grass is also home to the Sarus Crane. The Sarus Crane, is a species designated as declining and vulnerable. By using the natural Co Bang as an income source farmers are able to keep the land from being developed into rice fields or other commerce which destroys the natural ecosystem here and further endangers these beautiful creatures.

How do I keep these grass straws fresh?

The straws are wrapped in banana leafs in 100-straw packs. Once you receive the straws, please put the whole pack in an air tight bag or container and keep it in the refrigerator.

The best method of storage is to dampen a cloth and lay it inside a large bin, put the straws on top and seal it with the lid of the bin, then place in in the refrigerator.

They can stay fresh for 2 weeks, sometimes more if properly stored.

Can these grass straws be reused?

These straws are intended for single-use at restaurants, bars and events.

Do these grass straws contain preservatives?

Our grass straws are harvested, processed and shipped within 24 hours. The grass grows naturally, and the straws are not treated with any chemical products or preservatives.

They are triple washed in salt water.

Do grass straws affect the flavor of the drink?

There is no taste to the grass straw. There is a mild scent of fresh sweet grass.

Are these grass straws edible?

Grass straws are mildly sweet and rich in fibers. Chewing them after eating helps clean your teeth and gums.

Should I put grass straws in a compost bin?

Grass straws decompose naturally. Please put them into compost or organic waste bins.

How long can fresh straws be stored?

Fresh straws will stay green for 2 weeks if kept in the refrigerator properly.

It can be cut and used fresh as a drinking straw. It is easy to grow and very cost effective.

We grow our own green grass straws right here on the rooftops of Saigon. Growing close to our users ensures freshness and cuts down on transportation costs and pollution.
